Morning Wood
This Xylivore Gel premix is sold as a powder that is mixed up to a gel that can be stored for up to 6 months, and fed as required. A small amount of powder makes a lot of gel, so this small tub can last a very long time! A super firm and long lasting formula, that is designed specifically for fish that like to suck on hard wood, such as many L-number plecs.
For use, mix one part powder into three parts water, and stir until blended. Put in the microwave until the mixture starts to boil, then remove and stir. Alternatively, you could bring water to a boil on the stove, and then add this to the powder. Let the mixture cool, and poor into a storage container or mold, and let it sit at room temperature until firm. This finished gel can then be cut to cubes, whatever size you require for your fish, and whatever is not used then should be stored sealed in a fridge for up to two weeks, or in the freezer for up to six months.
For plecos and other similar species, this can be made into a slow release Jerky, by taking the strip of set gel, around 0.25 inch thick, and completely dry out in an oven at 150°F, taking around 8 - 12hours. This jerky strip can be fed as required, allowing long time grazing.
